It was a cold December game and their star on defense was Wahoo McDaniel.

I also remember you telling me about Jake Gibbs who I later found out was from Mississippi but I bought the story. We were Met fans who would confess to being a son of a Yankee unless it was true.

It’s good to be footnoted in one of your tales. This may be my 3rd or 4th mention. I’m coming up in the world. I remember Tim Brown from the Raiders but you said Timmy Brown was a different player, I don't remember him and I'm am Eagles fan. --- Billy from PhillyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1787822525441125324.post-88143848992653313492014-04-16T17:08:32.560-05:002014-04-16T17:08:32.560-05:00great story , lots of laughsgreat story , lots of laughsgmannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1787822525441125324.post-41911371564180792432014-04-15T04:03:08.362-05:002014-04-15T04:03:08.362-05:00Skip Evans My goodness that was funny and brought ...Skip Evans My goodness that was funny and brought back so many childhood memories! I too was confused by the Timmy Brown/Jimmy Brown relationship as a kid. My first football game was a Jets-Bills game but it was the following November 8, 1964 at the brand new Shea Stadiium and remember running into the house about every 15 minutes to check the score of that Giants- Bears championship game in 1963. It is not surprising that Ed Brown played for a time with the 1965 Colts as that season they had a string of injuries to the starter (Johnny Unitas) and his backup (Gary Cuozzo) which resulted in them having to play a game against the Packers at the end of the season with a running back, Tom Matte playing quarterback with the plays written on a band on his wrist, a precursor to how it is done today! The Colts lost when Don Chandler's field goal in the fog was rulled good, although it was outsidethe upright by a solid foot. The Packers then went on to beat the guess who, Cleveland Browns, in the last NFL championship of the pre Super Bowl era. Finally, in the list of Eagles players, you listed Irv Cross who may have been the cause of my wife marrying me. Early in our dating relationship, my wife was still in Washington DC and I was working in Rochester, NY. She called me one day a little nervous because in about 2 hours she had to give an award to some guy name Irv Cross who she knew nothing about. I gave her the full bio over the phone (a full 30 years before Google was even a thought) including his playing career with the Eagles and then Rams, plus his work at the time on the NFL Today with Brent Musberger, Jimmy the Greek, and Phyllis George. I was an instant hero in her heart! :). Thanks for the memories Steve.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
